Anthony has been enthusiastic about sports and fitness for most of his life. From soccer, to cross country running and triathlons, to Mountain and Road cycling in college and after, he has experience training for multiple sports.
Anthony discovered weightlifting later than most at the age of 29 (in 2014) while working a desk job that left him with horrible posture and lower back pain from sitting all day. Through progressive training he was able to strengthen the muscles involved in maintaining posture, and fix his back pain . In the process, he found his passion in the sport of Weightlifting.
“It is honestly one of the most mentally and physically challenging tasks I have ever undertaken. There is always technique to perfect and new cues to learn to continue lifting more and more weight.”
He uses his own experience from learning the movements to inform his coaching of his athletes. As a self-taught weightlifter for his first couple of years, he has learned to critique and correct his own technique . As a result, he is able to spot errors in the technique of others, and provide practical cues on correcting them (because he has faced most of them himself!).
Anthony hopes to compete on the National and World level as a Masters Athlete in 2019 when he turns 35.
